Aurivo presents Down Syndrome Ireland
with €40,000 to support the roll out of its
Ability Programme
Aurivo, the globally-focussed Agribusiness which is headquartered in the North West of Ireland, has presented a cheque worth €40,000 to Down Syndrome Ireland. Over the course of 2018, Aurivo employees organised a number of fundraising events for Down Syndrome Ireland’s local branches across the North West region, as part of the co-op’s Charity of the Year Programme (COTY).
Commenting on the announcement, Aaron Forde, Aurivo CEO said: “Aurivo was delighted to partner with Down Syndrome Ireland in 2018, where we supported the branches in Leitrim, West Cavan, Sligo and Roscommon. We take great pride in our Charity of the Year Programme and it is an important part of our Corporate Social Responsibility and Origin Green Sustainability Strategy. As we look forward to another positive year in 2019, we are proud to partner with Croí Ireland and give back to the local community once again.”
The funds raised by Aurivo will go to supporting Down Syndrome Ireland’s Ability Programme, which provides the necessary education support for children with Down Syndrome to attend mainstream education and develop social skills. The programme also works with a number of employers to provide employment opportunities for people with Down Syndrome.
Speaking about the partnership with Aurivo, Down Syndrome Ireland, CEO Gary Owens said: “Down Syndrome Ireland is dedicated to being the primary source of information and support to people with Down Syndrome and their families. Aurivo has helped fund programmes to enable us to rollout our Ability Programme and make a real difference in the lives of those living with down syndrome in the North West of Ireland. Our Ability Programme requires significant funding, so we can expand and deliver it nationwide. This generous support by Aurivo will allow us to continue to strive for equal rights for children and adults with Down Syndrome.”
Pat Duffy, Aurivo Chairman said: “Aurivo were proud to support Down Syndrome Ireland and to raise €40,000 for the charity in 2018. None of this would have been possible without our dedicated staff who hosted several fundraising events throughout the year. The Charity of the Year Programme allows our staff, members and customers to work alongside one another in the local community to raise vital funds for our charity partners.”
Aurivo’s Charity Partner of the Year for 2019 is Croí Ireland and throughout the year, Aurivo employees, members and customers will be fundraising for the ‘Courtyard Apartments’ at Croi House which have been specifically designed for short-term stays, to allow family members to be as close as possible to loved ones who are in hospital for cardiac or stroke care in University Hospital Galway.
Croí’s vision is to lead in the prevention, control of and recovery from cardiovascular disease and to serve as exemplars of innovation and best practice. The funds raised by Aurivo will be used to refurbish Croí ‘s three self -contained apartments that are open 365 days a year and have been used by people from all over Ireland, including Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Clare, Kildare, Dublin, Leitrim, Galway, Limerick and Belfast.
Other good causes which have benefited from Aurivo’s Charity of the Year initiative are Pieta House, ISPCC Childline, local Hospices; Special Olympics, Alzheimer’s society of Ireland, Cancer Care West, Autism Ireland, Acquired Brain Injury Ireland and Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.
